Our Mission

By decreasing barriers and providing skills and knowledge on breastfeeding, we promote the long-term health of pregnant, low-income, minority mothers and their children in New York City.

Program Goals

Increase knowledge among pregnant, low-income, minority mothers on the risks of not breastfeeding, as well as the benefits of breastfeeding, for both mothers and children.

Increase self-efficacy around breastfeeding among pregnant, low-income, minority mothers.

Increase reported rates and duration of breastfeeding among pregnant, low-income, minority mothers.

Program Objectives

At least 10 participants will attend 100% of training sessions.

At the end of the program, 100% of participants will be able to identify two benefits and two risks of not breastfeeding.

At the end of the program, 75% of participants will show a higher rate and longer duration of breastfeeding, compared to national averages for this demographic.

Over time, will have a 10% lower instance of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, breast and ovarian cancer in mothers, and 10% lower instance of asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, and SIDs in children, from increased rates of breastfeeding among program participants, compared to national averages of those who do not breastfeed.
